At 239 Days in America (“239 Days”) we appreciate your readership and place a high value on your personal privacy. We respect the personal nature of the information you provide us and staunchly recognize the importance of protecting this information. In adopting this privacy policy, our intent is to balance our ability to develop a community environment by collecting and using your personal information with your reasonable expectations of privacy.

When does 239 Days collect my personal information?

You may provide personal information to 239 Days in several ways, including: (1) by sharing your email address when subscribing to our email newsletter; (2) by sharing personal information — i.e. your Twitter username, Facebook account name, or Tumblr username — when engaging with our associated social media platforms; or (3) by sharing your email address when contacting us via our Contact form or by direct email to editor@239Days.com.

In the past you may have shared information with us while submitting comments to an online discussion we hosted at the bottom of each story, using the Disqus comment hosting service. We have permanently removed that feature from the site. If you previously commented, no information you provided will ever be used.

At no time will you be required to share any personal information to gain access to the site. We will at no time ask for credit card information, or any other financial information from any user.

In addition to basic contact information, the site and the associated third-party social media components, as well as our analytics trackers, may also collect other information including non-personal identifying information obtained by storing a “cookie” on your computer. This may include the operating system you are working on, the internet browser you are using, and the screen resolution of your computer.

If you are concerned about privacy on our associated third-party social media components (Twitter, Facebook, Mail Chimp, Google, Disqus, and other services which may be added at a later date) please refer to the privacy policies on those sites.

How does 239 Days use my personal information?

Depending on the portion of our site that you have subscribed to or interacted with, we may use your information in a number of ways.

The email address you provide through our newsletter subscription enables us to send you occasional information about the site. This subscription is entirely opt-in by the user. (We cannot subscribe you to the newsletter, as you personally must have access to the email account in order to verify the subscription.) Subscribers can opt-out of our newsletter at any time by clicking the “Unsubscribe” link that is present on the bottom of every email.

The username or email associated with your account when you comment(ed) on our Disqus discussion forums, or any of our associated social media components (Twitter, Facebook, Mail Chimp, Google) are not usually used for any other reason except to respond to a post or comment.

The email address that you use when contacting us with comments or questions via our Contact Us link will not be used for any reason but to respond to your inquiry.

If you choose to comment on 239 Days through Twitter and/or Facebook, we do not get access to your email address, nor do we have any access to your personal data or private information.

We will under no circumstances share your email address or personal information with any third parties. Such information may be used for data analytics, but we do not sell or share individual personal data or email addresses, or allow them to be used for mailings that you have not asked to receive.

239 Days Comment Policy

We previously hosted comments on our platform but we will do so no longer. The commenting feature has been turned off and comments will never again appear on our site. If you did interact with us in the comments you should know that we have never censored comments based on religious, political or ideological point of view, or those of a critical nature. We have reserved the right to delete comments that are off-topic, “spammy” in nature, abusive, use foul language, or include personal attacks.

Once a comment was made public on the 239 Days website, we would not remove it by request. As a user, you were responsible for your own communications and are responsible for the consequences of their posting.
